Australian Aboriginal Art spans a history of tens of thousands of years, making it the oldest continuous tradition of art-making in the world. From the intricate sand and body paintings in the desert regions to the stunning bark paintings and rock art in the North, the art forms of Australia's First Peoples are diverse. Despite this variety, all Aboriginal art serves a common purpose: to communicate ancestral ties and a deep connection to the land. With no written language, Indigenous Australian cultures used a sophisticated and complex visual language which is is fundamental to the expression of culture and idenity. It's in the making of the work that these artists harness the moment and capture space and time.
The works will be presented in both a playful and art historical riff—displayed without hierarchy and positioned both on the wall and the floor to replicate the artists’ original painting style. In sync with these artists, L’Appartement presents objects and furniture by designers Tanguy Tourain, Maison Jonckers, Corpus Studio and Ahu Studio.
